Nifty opened the shortened week with a negative gap, wiping out the previous week's gains. Bulls regained momentum after the weekly low of 15,579 was reached, as Nifty stayed above the 15,600 barrier. The benchmark index rebounded in the final two sessions of the week, eventually settling at 15,856, down 0.4% from the previous week's close.


Nifty is attempting to revisit the upper band of the recent trading range (i.e. 15,600-15,900). A decisive breakthrough with a sustained move above 15,900 is necessary to resume its journey to uncharted territory.


In the last week, the Bank Nifty has become more volatile and has underperformed (down 2 per cent on weekly close). The Bank Nifty's increased price volatility is likely to continue, as it has to stay above 35,000 to get some upside momentum.
